Isaias Fanlo is a scholar, a writer, a cultural manager, a photographer, and a translator. He is a PhD in Romance Languages and Literatures for the University of Chicago. His dissertation, Staging a Queer Nation: Landscapes of Desire in Contemporary Catalan Drama, explores contemporary Catalan drama through the lens of queer theory and critique.

He is the author of El llibre rosa (The Pink Book, Columna Edicions, 2004), and has published the chapter “Ética de lo obsceno, ideas en torno a la gentrificación del sida en las artes escéncias” in the book De vidas y virus: VIH/sida en las culturas hispánicas (Icaria, 2019). He has also published articles on theatre in the peer-reviewed journal (Pausa.), as well as articles and Op-Eds on theory, culture and activism in general media (Zero, Em Cena, Núvol, Diari Ara, Revista Contexto, etc.).

As a cultural manager, he’s a founder and co-director of Terrats en Cultura, Barcelona’s rooftop scenic arts festival (Butaca Award 2019 as Best Initiative for the Audiences, Time Out Award 2016 as Best Innovative Project), and is a member of the artistic committee of Barcelona’s Teatre Lliure. He also served for eight years as Chief Editor and Coordinator of Artistic Contents for Barcelona’s Teatre Nacional de Catalunya.
